FUSD adopted a 1:1 student laptop model during the COVID-19 pandemic. When students returned to schools, the district sustained the program as part of its commitment to digital equity. However, maintenance issues and their affiliated costs were known to be high, and in fall 2024, IT began an A-ROI analysis to assess the extent to which the 1:1 program was achieving its intended outcomes. The analysis revealed the instructional dimension of the maintenance issues and also established their affiliated fully loaded costs. The findings inspired a major policy change to the district’s approach to student laptops along with several interventions designed to support students and schools. In this session, we will share what happened along with methods and practices participants can use for their own A-ROI analyses.
