This session will help educational leaders who want to embed mastery grading into the school day by sharing the challenges we have faced thus far, and the processes we use to refine HST through a continuous improvement cycle. One key takeaway is that continuous improvement involves convincing more teachers to innovate in their approach to HST, examine how things went, and adjust again. Perfection is not expected and full buy-in to the system is not realistic. However, we have observed that giving teachers time to collaborate with each other on this problem of practice has yielded greater results than having the leadership explain why it is important. Our teachers are our greatest marketing team and collaborators in this process.
