Moving the Needle on Black Student Outcomes: Initial Data from the African American Student Success Network

The African American Student Success Network comprises 11 LEAs who have been engaged in improvement cycles over the past several years to tackle a pervasive academic outcome gap for Black students in their school systems. Areas of focus vary from addressing the disproportionality in Special Education identification rates to examining teaching and learning in middle school mathematics to reducing the number of non-passing grades in high school core classes. And while the individual districts’ problems of practice are varied, initial data coming out of the network is showing higher rates of improvement across most of the Dashboard indicators for African American students in participating districts than for African American students in the rest of the state. Come and see the data and hear from district leaders who are engaged in this work!
